The melee characters have attacks with all the elements, so you can easily adjust based on what you're fighting, but the 4 seraph characters are all heavily focused on one element, so if you're fighting in an area where the random encounters tend to resist that element it's a little bit harder. The one catch is that elemental weaknesses are pretty important. She has an early, strong aoe spell that centers on herself, so attacking with her melee combo and then casting it really quickly in the middle of a crowd is fun and effective. I had a lot of fun playing as the fire mage early on. Also, you can include spells in a combo, and they charge faster the farther in the combo they are. The last tales games I played before this was Abyss, so I don't know about any changes between then and now, but in this game the casters all have good, useable normal attack combos (with as much branching/attacks as the melee characters' combos). Yeah, the mages are pretty fun to play here.
